Course Intro

Whilst enrolled on OriGym’s fitness tutor course you will develop the necessary skills and knowledge required to plan and deliver lessons for both in-person students, as well as those using online learning materials. After completion, you can pursue careers with educational bodies, vocational training providers, or independent registers.

Whilst on this course, you’ll acquire the teaching and assessing skills required to plan and deliver lessons for both in-person students and those using digital learning materials. You will also learn how to assess official examinations and coursework to meet the highest industry standards.

Course Length: Whilst you can work independently, students typically complete the course in 8 weeks.
Entry Requirements: There are no prerequisites for our fitness assessor qualification. However, in order to teach a course you must hold the relevant associated qualification. All students must also be aged 16+.
Accreditations: This course is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by Focus Awards.

What You'll Learn

OriGym’s Level 3 Teaching and Assessing Qualification is split into two separate courses: one in teaching and the other in assessing.

When combined you’ll be equipped to deliver learning materials, whilst also knowing how to evaluate different kinds of formal assessments.

Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education

You’ll learn about the role course instructors play throughout the qualification and the relationship they share with students. This includes learning about the responsibilities of a teacher in terms of the welfare of their class, in order to create a supportive learning environment.

Using Inclusive Teaching Approaches

Our Fitness Teaching and Assessing course will walk you through strategies that are inclusive for all students, including diverse demographics with different needs. This is essential for ensuring that all your students feel safe, welcomed and supported during their course.

Facilitating Group Learning

Covering the theories of learning, teaching and assessment processes, in this module you’ll be taught how to run inductions and icebreakers, as well as how to set ground rules for group sessions to develop an effective learning environment.

Principles and Practices of Assessment

We’ll teach about the different types of assessment methods in fitness courses, how to plan assessment days, legal requirements and how to manage quality assurance during the assessment process. You’ll also have the opportunity to shadow an assessment day for real OriGym students.

How You'll be Assessed

In order to complete the Level 3 Teaching and Assessing qualification, you will need to complete both theoretical and practical assignments relating to both of these separate courses:

Award in Education & Training (Teaching Qualification)

Online Coursework – Pass Required
Practical micro-teach – Pass Required

Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (Assessors Qualification)

Online Coursework – Pass Required
Practical examination of assessing personal training students – Pass Required

The practical assessments will take place at one of OriGym’s training centres, located across the UK. You can even choose a date and site that suits you best!

OriGym’s Fitness Tutor Qualifications are taught via blended learning, combining online study with in-person practical workshops and assessments.

You can complete the theory side of the course at your own pace, working from the comfort of your own home on our custom-built E-learning platform.

In terms of face-to-face learning, this course also involves expert-led practical workshops where you can get hands-on experience and put your learning into practice. In terms of how you can progress and develop your career, keep in mind you’re only able to teach and assess on courses you’ve personally completed. For example, if you’re a qualified Personal Training you’ll be able to teach the Personal Training Diploma.

Therefore if you’re looking to progress your career you will need to qualify as a specialist Personal Trainer with a Level 4 qualification. Alternatively, you can pursue an entirely new discipline, through the likes of a Sports Massage Therapy course or Yoga Teacher Training.

You don’t need to have any prior qualifications to enrol on our Fitness Teacher and Assessor certification.

However, you will only be able to teach courses that you’re qualified in yourself, so you may need to undergo additional training after completion. For example, if you’re a qualified PT you will be able to lead students through a Personal Training Diploma.
